HighTissue is an R&D project, co-financed by Regione Toscana, aiming to build a high-efficiency prototype line of tissue converting. The main objective of the project was to optimize energy consumption in paper processing. IMT has assisted both theoretical and practical, mainly concerning to fluid dynamic part. The aim of the research was to understand the effect of aspiration in paper production, to optimize the dust aspiration, also to improve the health of the employees, using CFD tools. In collaboration with Odys, a method of comparison and evaluation of geometries was developed. Once the geometries were simulated through the opensource CFD code openFOAM, an efficient comparison between those could be done. Also, the single geometry could be optimized evaluating the fluid field. Results obtained by CFD tools were confirmed with real test, with a consistent reduction of power consumption.
