FAQs (EU/non EU Students)

The IMT School considers foreign students a fundamental resource. This section of the site is therefore dedicated to them, to help students navigate the bureaucratic procedures required for entry into a country other than their own.
Enclosed in the FAQ, divided by topic, are the various questions that identify the most frequent doubts and problems encountered by IMT’s students over the years. For this reason, this is a constantly evolving and changing section.
International students can contact the Campus Management and Facilities Office for Visa, Residence Permit, Tax ID Code and Health Care procedures. Students can also engage the Office for information or inquiries regarding accommodation in the residence, the canteen service and other services (e.g. Italian language course, cleaning service, etc.). In order to meet the needs of each student, an appointment is required to interface with the Office.

The Study Visa (Visto per Studio) is an endorsement that is added to a government passport, which permits foreign students to study at a country's qualified educational institutions.
The Tax Identification Number (Codice Fiscale) is an individual tax identification code of 16 alphanumeric characters uniquely devised from an individual’s name, date and place of birth.
The Stay Permit (Permesso di Soggiorno) is a document that all non-EU students will need to apply for in order to stay and study in Italy legally.

You can decide to apply to the Italian National Healthcare Service (“Servizio Sanitario Nazionale - SSN”) or you can choose a private health insurance provider. If you decide to go for the private insurance option, you also have the option to find an insurance company in your country before coming to Italy. If you are an EU citizen, as of April 11, 2007, you are allowed to move without restrictions int Italy without applying for a Stay Permit.
INPS is the primary social security institution in Italy, which all employees of public/private institutions and majority of self-employed workers, must be registered and insured.
Italian banks offer checking and savings accounts, and joint accounts for couples (conto corrente cointestato).
