International Scouting

IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca is a Public University School for Higher Education and Research with a special statute, which focuses on the analysis of economic, societal, technological and cultural systems.
IMT School promotes the full integration of research and education. Since its institution by ministerial decree of November 18th 2005, the School has distinguished itself thanks to the quality and innovativeness of its research and doctoral programs and its interdisciplinary nature, characterized by the complementarity and interaction between methodologies drawn from economics, engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, physics, archeology, art history and the analysis and management of cultural heritage. The IMT School is committed to gender equality, inclusion, and diversity.
The purpose of the scouting procedure is to collect expressions of interest in sectors deemed strategic for the development of the School’s research areas and doctoral programs in order to evaluate the opportunity to open call (“concorsi”) as expected according to the Italian law.

Specifically at this stage, the School initiates International Scouting for the collection of expressions of interest for

Computational Neuroscience for Social Cognition
We invite expressions of interest for a tenure-track assistant professorship in computational neuroscience applied to social and cognitive neurosciences. The successful candidate will strengthen IMT's core competencies in the combination of multimodal neuroimaging, psychophysiological and advanced analytical methods (including machine learning and representational approaches) to describe the behavioral and neural correlates of large-scale organizational dynamics of socio-economic systems. As such, his/her work relies on theoretical and methodological approaches from cognitive neuroscience, social cognition and data science in the contextual frameworks of integrated projects among cognitive science, psychology and (behavioral) economy.
Applications are welcome from researchers within a broad spectrum of backgrounds and interests – both theoretical and applied – including, but not limited to:

  • Cognitive and social neurosciences;
  • Advanced signal processing and mathematical modeling to analyze brain and peripheral signals;
  • Computational modeling applied to behavioral (e.g., language, emotions, etc.) and to neural correlates;
  • Machine learning and clustering for neurosciences, cognitive sciences, economic research.

The appointed Assistant Professor is expected to contribute to the Open Lab, a research infrastructure planned in the context of the Italian program for Departments of Excellence 2023-2027. The Open Lab aims to bridge the gap between research and society providing a step towards improving collaboration with external stakeholders.
