Accreditation

Initial Accreditation

The initial Accreditation consists in the authorization by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) to activate campuses, Schools, courses (Bachelor, Master, PhD) upon verification of requirements as defined by the Law (Legislative Decree 19/2012, Ministerial Decree 439/2013, Ministerial Decree 45/2013, Ministerial Decree 6/2019).

In detail, Ministerial Decree 439/2013 regulates criteria and parameters for the initial and periodic accreditation of Schools for Advanced Studies.

The guidelines defined by ANVUR, which also take into account regulations issued at a later stage, aim at defining the evaluation criteria and the procedures to be followed for both the initial and periodic accreditation of Schools for Advanced Studies.

For more details, please check the ANVUR website.

The Path to Initial Accreditation

The analysis of the documents presented is carried out by a team of five qualified assessors and experts (in Italian "Commissione di Esperti per la Valutazione delle Scuole Superiori" or CEVS) and two PhD students. They will, then, carry out an on-site assessment, lasting up to five days.

Following the on-site assessment, the School will receive a preliminary evaluation report.

The process will end with the CEVS writing the final report and sending it to the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and to the Italian National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes (ANVUR). In the report the School is deemed either accredited or not accredited.

Initial accreditation is granted by MIUR via a Ministerial Decree.

The Accreditation of the IMT School

The on-site assessment took place between November 25th and November 29th, 2019.

The Ministry of University and Research granted the initial accreditation to the IMT School on August 10th, 2020 with Decree no. 438.
