Some considerations on da Vinci's thought are presented in relation to the methods and ideas of modern Structural Mechanics. Some notes taken from the Atlantic code are examined in a critical way and combined with similar concepts expressed by Galilei. The timely aspects of Leonardo's thought are highlighted in relation to some recent applications to the theory of structures and soft robotics.
