The successful applicant will have a consistent record of high-level scientific publications in the field of the reception of Arabic and Islamic texts in Latin and the vernacular, with special reference to the case-studies of Italy, and particularly Tuscany. Teaching expertise to doctoral students is required. In-depth analyses on the reception of the Qurʾān and of further Islamic texts (e.g. of the so-called Corpus islamo-latinum or Collectio Toletana) in authors active in Italy from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance will be most valued, with special con-sideration to the problems of Western orientalism in pre-modern times. A de-monstrable expertise in literary studies (esp. Italian studies), with particular at-tention to the paradigmatic case of Dante Alighieri’s Comedy, will be considered a further, extremely valuable assessment.
The successful applicant will give at least two papers during their stay in Lucca, focusing on issues related to their main fields of interest as detailed in the Pro-file section. The papers should be scientific and research contributions, suitable however for dissemination and the fruition of a diversified audience of scholars, with different fields of expertise. One of the papers would be preferably devot-ed to an issue of importance to the much-debated topic of the Arabic-Islamic sources of Dante’s thought, with special reference to the writing of the Comedy; another should take into consideration further topics of reception of Arabic-Islamic texts and authors in medieval or Renaissance Italy. With their expertise in the relations of Islam and Christianity in pre-modern and modern Europe, the successful applicant will be able to collaborate to the research of students and researchers at the RU PhiBor.
