Italian Renaissance, pop culture and the video game industry: the case of Assassin's Creed

6 June 2018
San Francesco - Via della Quarquonia 1 (Classroom 1 )
Professor Simonetta's works have in recent years left the boundaries of academia to find their way into pop culture, when Ubisoft, one of the world's top software houses, hired him as a history consultant for their legendary Assassin's Creed video game series. The second instalment of the series, which actually launched it as a global phenomenon, takes place in Renaissance Florence and Italy. One of Professor Simonetta's subjects of study, the Pazzi Conspiracy against the Medici in Florence, is an integral part of the videogame's plot. We'll hear about that, Machiavelli, Botticelli, the Rome of the Borgia, and of course a lot more about how the Italian Renaissance could fit into a video game series.
