Strategic thinking development in an ever-changing world

Negli ultimi 30 anni, i progressi tecnologici hanno trasformato il mondo, cambiando drasticamente il modo in cui le persone comunicano e interagiscono. Un’interazione strategica di successo dipende dalla capacità di estrapolare le informazioni corrette da un contesto complesso, incorporarle in un sistema di credenze e utilizzarle per sviluppare una strategia ottimale. Le persone che padroneggiano il complesso processo di gestione e sfruttamento delle informazioni hanno un grande vantaggio su coloro che non lo fanno.
L'obiettivo di questo progetto è 1) studiare il processo di raccolta, elaborazione e sfruttamento delle informazioni, in contesti interattivi e con partner diversi; 2) studiare il meccanismo alla base del processo di mutuo adattamento in contesti interattivi; 3) prevedere il comportamento in base al modello di acquisizione delle informazioni.
I dati del progetto verranno raccolti sperimentalmente utilizzando dati online, di laboratorio e di tracciamento del movimento oculare. Il/la assegnista di ricerca entrerà a far parte di un team composto da ricercatori dell'IMT Lucca e dell'Università Milano Bicocca. Ci si aspetta che il candidato contribuisca in ogni aspetto della ricerca, dal disegno sperimentale alla stesura dell'articolo, ma soprattutto nella programmazione del software sperimentale e nell'analisi dei dati. Il gruppo di ricerca lavora da anni con successo sul tema del pensiero strategico e comprende alcuni dei ricercatori con la più ampia esperienza sull'argomento nel campo dell'economia.

In the last 30 years, technological advancements have transformed the world, drastically changing the way people communicate and interact. Success in strategic interaction now hinges on the capacity to extrapolate the correct information from a complex context, incorporate it into a system of beliefs, and use it to develop an optimal strategy. People that master the complex process of managing and exploiting information, have a great advantage on those who do not. The goal of this project is to 1) unpack the process of collection, elaboration, and exploitation of information, in interactive contexts and with different partners; 2) study the mechanism behind the process of mutual adaptation in interactive settings; 3) forecast behavior based on the pattern of information acquisition. 
Data in the project will be collected experimentally using on-line, lab-based, and eye-tracking data. The successful candidate will join a team composed by researchers from IMT Lucca and University Milano Bicocca. The candidate is expected to contribute in every aspect of the research, from the experimental design to the drafting of the article, but especially in the programming of the experimental software and in data analysis. Therefore, the successful candidate should have good knowledge of parametric and nonparametric statistic, econometric analysis, and programming. Experience with machine learning techniques is a plus. Proficient knowledge of English is required. Holding a PhD is a preferred condition, but not required.The research team has been successfully working on the topic of strategic thinking for years and includes some of the researchers with the broadest experience on the topic within the field of economics.

• Master Degree in: Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Physics or equivalent degrees;
• Scientific-professional curriculum suitable to the development of research activities related to the fellowship;
• Good knowledge of both spoken and written English;

Specific requirements:

The successful candidate should have good knowledge of parametric and nonparametric statistic, econometric analysis, and programming.

Experience with machine learning techniques is a plus. Proficient knowledge of English is required. Holding a PhD is a preferred condition, but not required.
