Activity
The candidate will participate in the activities of the Research Project “Chain the Brain: serotonin disfunction in violent offenders and psychopaths” aimed at evaluating the relationship between behavior and functional and structural magnetic resonance imaging data in criminals and antisocial individuals. The research project requires mastering different methodological approaches ranging from analysis of behavioral and demographic data to quantification of brain responses and morphological brain properties in a large cohort of human subjects.
Profile

IMT Lucca invites applications for a Research Collaborator with a background in neuroimaging applied to social and affective cognition. The candidate should have publications on behavioral and brain correlates of theory of mind, mentalizing abilities and emotion processing, as well as research experience in the field of social cognition for 3 years at least.

Formal requirements
  • Master degree in Psychology (Cognitive Neuroscience curriculum is favored), preferably acquired within the last 6 years;
  • At least three years of research activity in the field of social and affective cognition, with a focus on functional neuroimaging methodologies (e.g., fMRI and PET);
  • Excellent knowledge of both written and spoken English.
Specific requirements
  • Training in administering neuropsychological and personological tests for assessing theory of mind, empathy and mentalization abilities;
  • Proficiency in functional magnetic resonance imaging data analysis (preferably competent in AFNI and FSL);
  • Proficiency in the analysis of cortical and subcortical morphology using Freesurfer and other related tools;
  • Excellent MATLAB programming skills;
  • Excellent in drafting scientific papers;
  • Publications relevant for the field of social cognition published in international peer-reviewed journals, as well as honors, awards and oral presentations at national and international meetings of neuroimaging as well as social and affective neuroscience societies.
