Profile

The candidate has documented training and expertise in the field of Ancient Art History and Classical, in particular in the methodologies and tools aimed at the following activities: census, analysis, classification, documentation and study of a selection of ancient Roman portraits; collaboration to census, analysis, classification, documentation and study of ancient Roman portrait-statues, sarcophagi and other funerary materials (urns, arae, Inscriptions); collaboration to the new display setting of MNR and to projects and organization of temporary exhibitions; IT expertise in the elaboration and use of IT tools for the documentation, classification, management and accessibility of archaeological, art historical, museological, provenance/proveniance and topographical data is required.

Activity

The candidate will carry her/his research activity out in the frameworf of the projects of research, protection and valorisation related to the Museo Nazionale Romano (MNR), with a focus on the activities aimed at the reorganization of the Museum's display setting and the organization of temporary exhibitions. The project is co-supervised by the LYNX Research Center at IMT School and by the MNR. The activities include: census, analysis, classification, documentation and study of a selection of ancient Roman portraits; collaboration to census, analysis, classification, documentation and study of ancient Roman portrait-statues, sarcophagi and other funerary materials (urns, arae, Inscriptions); collaboration to the new display setting of MNR and to projects and organization of temporary exhibitions; elaboration and use of IT tools for the documentation, classification, management and accessibility of archaeological, art historical, museological, provenance/proveniance and topographical data. The research activities will be carried out, according to the different phases of their development, mainly at the MNR, Rome, and at IMT Lucca. The selected researcher shall share the different phases of the research through seminars/lectures for students and doctoral students as well as tutoring and training activities, public initiatives and publications both in paper and digital format.

Formal requirements
  • PhD. in Classical Archaeology or fields related to Archaeological cultural heritage
  • Master Degree (Laurea specialistica) in the field of Archaeology or pertaining to research management valorisation of Cultural Heritage
  • Knowledge of both written and spoken English.
Specific requirements
  • Experience in the census, analysis, calssification, documentation, study, management and valorisation of archaeological materials;
  • Experience in the study of ancient Greek and Roman Art and Archaeology;
  • Experience in the elaboration and use of IT tools for the documentation, classification, management and accessibility of archaeological, art historical, museological, provenance/proveniance and topographical data;
  • Experience of the activities related to musealization of archaeological materials and organization of exhibitions.
