Mechanics and degradation phenomena of photovoltaic laminates and materials: numerical simulation and testing

1 Research Collaborator position
(Deadline January 11th, 2016 12:00 )
Fields

Thermo-mechanics, Fracture mechanics, Computational methods, Degradation phenomena, Electric mode

Activity

Development of mathematical models, numerical methods, and validation with experiments to assess the effect of cracks and thermo-elastic deformation on the electric response of Silicon solar cells. Special focus will be given to the extension of the existing models and techniques to the cyclic (repeated loading) regime.

Formal requirements

Possession of a 4 or 5-years undergraduate degree or equivalent MSc’s level education in Engineering, Physics or related areas.Experience on crack propagation models in Silicon driven by thermo-mechanical fields; electric models for the prediction of the electric response of cracked Silicon solar cells. Expertise on the use of the electroluminescence technique to monitor cracks in Silicon solar cells and validate the prediction of electric models. The candidate must have a curriculum with a suitable scientific and professional background for carrying out research activity in the required field. Excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken.

Specific requirements

Articles published in scientific journals, in conference proceedings, and doctoral experience confirming the requested skills.
