Falco Joannes Bargagli Stoffi

Falco is a joint Ph.D. Researcher in Economics and Data Science at IMT School for Advanced Studies and at KU Leuven. In 2019 he was a visiting scholar at Harvard University supervised with Prof. Francesca Dominici.
Falco's academic interests are quantitative social science and data science. In particular the main fields of his investigation are causal inference, machine learning and impact evaluation. Falco is currently working on various applications of machine learning in political, public and health economics.

He is a member of the Laboratory for the Analysis of compleX Economic Systems - AXES directed by Prof. Massimo Riccaboni (since Nov. 2016), a member of the local unit of The National Institute for Advanced Mathematics - INdAM (since Jan. 2018) directed by Prof. Giorgio Gnecco and a junior researcher at Leuven Economics of Education Research - LEER (since Oct. 2018) directed by Prof. Kristof De Witte.

Prior to the Ph.D., he received a master's degree in Statistics at University of Florence. He wrote his masters thesis at Humboldt University working on the bond between Machine Learning and Causal Inference under the supervision of Prof. Fabrizia Mealli (University of Florence) and Prof. Christoph Breunig (Humboldt University). During his undergraduate years, he studied at the "Cesare Alfieri" School of Political Science with a focus on the social aspects of economic phenomena. Falco served as City Councillor in charge of Youth Policy in a municipality of the Metropolitan City of Florence from 2013 to 2018.
