San Francesco Complex - classroom 1

In this talk, I will present an overview of our new theoretical framework to study various types of social norms and their influence on behavior. I will start with some current ideas on the role of cooperation in human evolution and how the evolutionary push to cooperate shaped our morality. Then, I will talk about the dual-self view of human mind (reason and emotion; or rationality and affect) and will show how we can think theoretically about the emergence of norms in rational and affective minds. In the second part of the talk, I will present the results of various field and experimental projects where the framework has been successfully used. I will finish with a discussion of the types of field (also experimental and theoretical) research that can be done with the framework and how to use it to arrive at policy implications.
