Activity:

The successful candidate will join the Social and Affective Neuroscience (SANe) group of the MoMiLab research unit. The SANe group studies the neural and psychological basis of people's social and affective abilities, focusing on how individuals understand, express and conceptualize their feelings and how they respond to the behaviors and emotions of others. Therefore, the SANe group studies the mechanisms underlying empathy, theory of mind and emotions and how these are represented at the brain level. To pursue these aims, SANe researchers use state-of-the-art neuroimaging and behavioral techniques, often in combination with naturalistic stimulations, such as movies, narratives, and real-life social interactions. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and pursue an original line of research that fits into the topics of interest of the group, implementing new methods and approaches to the study of brain and behavior, publishing their research in international peer-reviewed journals, developing new collaborations with national and international research centers, supervising Ph.D. students, and engaging in all other dissemination and third mission activities that foster the growth of the group and the promotion of its research agenda.

Formal requirements:

Master's degree and PhD in Psychology, Cognitive Sciences or Neuroscience. At least 5 years of experience in the field of social and affective neuroscience. At least 10 publications in international peer-reviewed journals. At least 1 year spent in foreign institutions. At least 1 national or international grant.

Excellent ability to analyze behavioral and functional neuroimaging data. Excellent programming skills in MATLAB,
or Python or Julia. Excellent ability in conceiving original experimental designs. Excellent ability in writing scientific
articles and research proposals to attract funding.

Selection procedure conditions are transparent and are based on international standards.

Procedure

A Selection Committee, appointed by the Rector, assesses all applications on the basis online application info. Applicants selected on the basis of the preliminary analysis are interviewed at the Job Market Meetings in which the Institute is planning to participate, if applicable to the specific academic sector. Alternatively, individual interviews may also be conducted at IMT or by conference call. Travel expenses to Lucca for the interview will be reimbursed.

Selection Criteria

The evaluation criteria are based on: Quality of research activity, including publications in peer-reviewed journals and references; Research organization experience and participation in international/national research projects and research periods in public and private institutions (academic and non-academic); Relevance of the candidate's profile for the development of IMT's research activities; Teaching, mentoring and supervision experience; Motivation; Excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken; As well as any other requirements as specified in the advertisement.
