Creative Imagination and Comedy: Can AI be funny?

In the last years, AI has quickly developed and it is now competing with us in many fields once considered a prerogative of the human mind. LLMs are now a mirror for humans and understanding their potential, limits and weaknesses is crucial for improving the awareness of people as well as the safe coexistence with this new technology. The starting point for penetrating this new research field will be identifying and understanding some aspects of the creativity processes behind sophisticated human activities such as the sense of humor and the processing of emotions.

This workshop, co-organized with the King’s College London, is devoted to addressing some fundamental research questions in the aforementioned area. The workshop will follow a multidisciplinary approach by inviting and involving participants from both the IMT and KCL communities, having different backgrounds including (but not limited to) neuroscience, philosophy, computer science and literature studies.

The workshop will also serve as the kick-off meeting of a project funded by KCL that will deal with the workshop’s topics.
