Approximating the contact process

We will introduce the contact process as a mathematical model for the spread of infections or information and point out some difficulties in analysing this process. We will then introduce some novel methods to approximate the contact process on relatively dense graphs. Our goal is to describe the metastable distribution of the contact process, which occurs when the infection rates are sufficiently high. This is joint work with Henk Don and Oluwapelumi Stephen Awolude.
