The San Ponziano Complex
The San Ponziano Complex – in addition to the Library of the same name – also houses the headquarters of the IMT School in the historic building that was once home to the Luigi Boccherini Conservatory, whose restoration was completed in the summer of 2006.
Covering an area of over 1,000 m2, the building – known as the Ex-Boccherini – houses all the administrative offices of the School with its technical-administrative staff, common areas, meeting rooms and rooms for seminars and conferences. The reception, which follows the same opening hours as the offices, is located on the ground floor.

Meeting Room (31.06 m2 located on the ground floor of the Ex-Boccherini) with 12 seats used for meetings and didactic lessons, equipped with a video projector and blackboard.
Conference Room (67.66 m2 located on the ground floor of the Ex-Boccherini) with 50 seats used for seminars, conferences, lectures, plenary meetings, equipped with video projector, dedicated laptop and blackboard.
As of 2018, the ground floor of the Ex-Boccherini building also hosts a Multidisciplinary Laboratory, managed by the MoMiLab (Molecular Mind Laboratory) research unit, which is currently equipped with two soundproofed booths (Boxy and B-ear) featuring equipment for conducting cognitive-behavioural experiments.
As of 2020, the School is equipped with Multimedia Whiteboards (Microsoft Surface HUB) with the following features:
50-inch Surface Hub 2S present in the Meeting Room
85-inch Surface Hub 2S present in the Conference Room.
The IMT School Library (1,438.05 m2) is housed in the San Ponziano Complex, in the building that was once the Church of San Ponziano.
The Library provides a total of 86 reading places, of which 54 in the reading room on the ground floor (a space shared with external users) and 32 in the open space on the third floor (a space reserved for the School's students). The two intermediate floors house 24 offices for individual use, 20 assigned to researchers for the duration of their contract and 4 reserved for students for individual or group study.
In addition, the ground floor of the Library is home to the Crypt, a small room equipped with a blackboard and video projector, which can be used for seminars and meetings.
Library services are available from Monday to Thursday from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm and on Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm However, institutional users can also access the building outside public opening hours, 7 days a week, from 7:30 am to midnight.
The Library offers the following services: Wi-Fi connection, local lending, inter-library loans and document supply, bibliographic information services, assistance in the use of catalogues and electronic resources, support for the use of anti-plagiarism software and much more. As of 2023, the School has equipped itself with a Multimedia Whiteboard (86-inchHUAWEI IdeaHub S2 IHS2-86SA).

By car
Take the A11 Firenze-Mare motorway and exit at Lucca-Est. The car park in Piazza San Ponziano and Via Elisa is the closest to the Complex and is accessible from Porta Elisa.
By train
The Lucca railway station (Piazzale Ricasoli) is well connected to Pisa, Florence and other Tuscan cities. The Complex is easily reached on foot.
By plane
From Pisa: The Galileo Galilei Airport is connected to Pisa central station by the Pisa Mover (trains run every 10 minutes, €5). From there, a regional train takes you to Lucca in about 30 minutes (€3.60). Taxis (around €50) and VAI buses are also available.
From Florence: From the Amerigo Vespucci Airport, the Vola in Bus shuttle bus reaches Santa Maria Novella station in 25 minutes (€6). From here, trains to Lucca run about every 30 minutes. A taxi from the airport to Lucca costs around €140.
