Residential Campus

The campus of the IMT School consists of several state-of-the-art buildings located just a few minutes from each other in the historic centre of Lucca, within its Renaissance city walls. It is a campus spread out within the city and in dialogue with the city.

With a surface area of over 12,000 m2, it is spread over three main sites: the Complesso di San Ponziano, the Complesso di San Francesco and the Residenza di via Brunero Paoli. These house the School's library, classrooms, laboratories, study rooms, teaching staff’s offices and the offices of the technical-administrative staff, dormitories and the canteen, as well as other spaces intended for seminars, conferences, workshops and public engagement events such as the Cappella Guinigi auditorium, the Sacristy and the Sala della Botte.

The IMT School campus is a place, certainly, but it is also a way. A “campus system”, as we like to call it: the School has chosen it since its foundation, interpreting the residential campus of San Francesco, in the eastern part of the city, as the heart of its scientific community.

On the campus, the School's students live, study, sleep, eat, exchange opinions and ideas in a time of rest or recreation in the kitchenette, in front of the skylight of the coin-operated laundry in the basement, meet the professors in the cool setting of the cloisters. As part of the daily sharing, ideas circulate and are born, thus also occasionally realising that propensity for openness and dialogue between disciplines on which the School's identity rests.
