The IMT School is hosting the Italian Mental Mathematics Championship
On Friday 10 and Saturday 11 April 2026, the IMT School will host the Italian Mental Mathematics Championship, an event organised by Studiogiochi in collaboration with the IMT School and the IUSS Graduate School of Pavia as part of Educating Future Citizens, the PNRR NextGenerationEU project funded by the European Union, which aims to foster informed citizens through a collaborative network involving specialised schools and university schools.
Guest of honour Aaryan Shukla: at just 16 years old, the young Indian is the world champion in mental arithmetic and holds no fewer than six Guinness World Records. Domenico Mancuso will be defending the national title: he is the reigning Italian champion and has been unbeaten since 2019, with five consecutive titles to his name. The competition – divided into the Champion and Open categories – will kick off on the morning of Saturday 11 April under the direction of Dario De Toffoli, creator of the Championship and owner of Studiogiochi, who introduced the discipline of mental arithmetic to Italy.
Saturday afternoon begins with opening remarks from Ennio Bilancini, Professor of Economics at the IMT School and an expert in Game Theory, and Andrea Tiengo, Professor of Astrophysics at the IUSS School in Pavia and coordinator of the Educating Future Citizens project. The highlight is scheduled for 3 pm, when Aaryan Shukla will attempt to break the world record live in one of the mental arithmetic disciplines.
At the end of the day, the titles of Italian Overall Champion and Italian Champion will be awarded in the Middle School, High School and Over-60s categories. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category and to the top ten overall finishers in the Champion race.
