Lucca, 23 October 2025 - Innovation, openness and inclusiveness; sustainability; interdisciplinarity: these will be the three pillars guiding the development of the IMT School over the next five years. During their meetings on 21 and 22 October, the Academic Senate and the Board of Directors approved the IMT School's first strategic plan, a document that sets out the medium- to long-term priorities for action and, specifically, outlines the direction of the School from now until 2030.

The 2025-2030 Strategic Plan represents the cornerstone for development and the reference framework for defining the objectives of governance and administration, starting from the guidelines set out in the 2025-2027 three-year planning document approved last December and with a view to integration with the organisation's budget.

The plan is based on a reflection on the identity and future of the IMT School twenty years after its establishment and on the direction to be taken over the next five years. It is characterised by a cross-cutting, flexible approach capable of responding quickly to scientific, social, cultural, economic and technological challenges.

"We are pleased," comments Lorenzo Casini, Rector of the IMT School. "This is the first time that the School has adopted a strategic plan, a document that is the result of a participatory process both internally, involving our entire community, and externally, thanks to dialogue with key players in the city of Lucca and the surrounding area, such as the Municipality, the Province, the Chamber of Commerce and, above all, the Cassa di Risparmio Foundation. A plan that gives," continues Casini, "a broad perspective to the School from now until 2030, articulating its development, on the one hand, to increasingly involve the institutions and economic fabric of Lucca, and, on the other hand, to increase the level of internationalisation and the quality of the services offered by the School."

Three lines of development: innovation, openness and inclusiveness; sustainability; interdisciplinarity, which will be implemented in the School's three strategic areas: research and training, infrastructure and human capital. In particular, with regard to research and training, the School has carefully selected a set of cross-cutting themes for all multidisciplinary scientific areas that are characterised by their strategic relevance and innovative nature: sustainability; policies and impacts on institutions, markets and technologies; human and artificial intelligence and technologies of the future; security; cultural heritage and cultural and creative enterprises.

The School aims to strengthen its role as a reference institution in these areas, both for local industry and the economy and on the national and international scene. In addition to research and training, the other two areas are infrastructure, with the enhancement of the Campus, laboratories and IT infrastructure accompanied by redevelopment of the historic centre and the enhancement of prestigious buildings, and, finally, human capital, with the implementation of welfare policies, the welcoming of Scholars at Risk, the strengthening of the international dimension and the improvement of services offered.
