PhD program "Mind, Brain and Human Thought": applications are now open
What does it mean to think? How do ideas, emotions and behaviours form and develop? These are the questions at the heart of the IMT School’s new PhD program “Mind, Brain, and Human Thought (MBHT)”, which has opened applications for the 2026/2027 academic year.
With a strong interdisciplinary approach, the MBHT PhD programme is structured around two curricula that encompass complementary perspectives. The first, entitled “Neuroscience, Experimental Psychology and Psychophysiology (NEPP)”, focuses on the neural and psychological mechanisms underpinning cognitive and emotional functions and human behaviour, using approaches from experimental psychology, psychophysiology and neuroimaging methodologies. The second, entitled “Human Thought: Philosophy, History and Science (HT)”, examines the philosophical, epistemological and historical dimensions of knowledge, exploring the roots and evolution of scientific and humanistic thought.
By integrating these two perspectives, the MBHT programme trains researchers to conduct innovative analyses of human thought, behaviour and the brain, addressing both their biological foundations and their cultural dimensions. In this way, the programme aims to train a new generation of scholars capable of combining scientific rigour with a historical and philosophical perspective, thereby promoting an approach to the complexity of the human mind that is not merely reductionist.
Six scholarships are available: applications are open until June 29. The programme, which will begin in November 2026, lasts three years. Successful applicants will be entitled to a scholarship, free meals and accommodation in the campus halls of residence, as well as other benefits reserved for students of the School.
