Behavioral and cognitive neuroscience, structural and functional brain imaging.
Participation in the research activities of the Unit related to the study of neurobiological, cognitive and psychophysical correlates of conceptual action representation and social interaction in humans. Research will be conducted through a multidisciplinary approach, including multimodal methodologies (in particular optical tracking, electromyography - EMG, electroencephalography - EEG, structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging - MRI).
The RTD-A Candidate must possess a strong expertise in the acquisition and analysis of behavioral, psychophysical and EMG, EEG and MRI data related to studies regarding the cognitive and brain functional correlates of action recognition and social interaction. Specifically, the RTD-A Candidate will develop research within a multidisciplinary collaborative project on synergy-based control of movements of the hand in healthy individuals and in patients with movement disorders of the upper limb. The project will need the development of multivariate analytical tools, including encoding/decoding approaches, as well as their implementation on both behavioral and brain functional data.
- Formal requirements:
Doctorate degree in biomedical engineering, neuroscience, psychology or related areas.

Articles published in scientific journals and in conference proceedings in the pertinent fields. The candidate must possess a scientific maturity to conduct a research project in an independent manner. An excellent knowledge of both written and spoken English is required.

Selection procedure and criteria

Applicants selected on the basis of the preliminary analysis are interviewed at the Job Market Meetings in which the Institute is planning to participate, if applicable to the specific academic sector. Alternatively, individual preliminary interviews may also be conducted at IMT or by conference call. Travel expenses to Lucca for the preliminary interview will not be reimbursed. Shortlisted candidates are invited for a Job Market Presentation open to IMT faculty members and students. Travel expenses for the Job Market Presentation will be reimbursed.
The evaluation criteria are based on: Quality of research activity, including publications in peer-reviewed journals and references; Research organization experience and participation in international/national research projects and research periods in public and private institutions (academic and non-academic); Relevance of the candidate's profile for the development of IMT's research activities; Teaching, mentoring and supervision experience; Motivation; Excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken; As well as any other requirements as specified in the advertisement.
