At the end of their Ph.D. Program, Ph.D. Students must submit a thesis dissertation, consisting of a suitable body of original academic research. The final exam takes place in front of the Evaluation Committee, and consists of the public discussion of the thesis. Having passed the final exam, students obtain the Ph.D. degree.
Following the obtainment of the degree, the School sends a copy of each Ph.D. thesis to the National Libraries of Rome and Florence and is disseminated on the IMT web site through an open access archive.
The Scientific Board shall promote the diffusion of the results of the thesis, organizing, at the end of the formative path, a public seminar where the Ph.D. doctors illustrate their research results to interlocutors of scientific, economic and social context.
In addition to the Coordinator and the Scientific Board, each Ph.D. Students in IMT is supported by a tutor and a supervisor.
The tutors will orientate students throughout the period mainly dedicated to education activities such as courses and seminars. The tutors will be selected preferably among the resident professors and researchers of the School, or anyhow among those who can guarantee constant orientation activity in favour of the students.
The supervisors will orientate students in the realization of the research project and the editing of the thesis. Supervisors are members of the international scientific community, preferably selected among resident or visiting professors of the School, members of the Ph.D. Program Scientific Board or professors who have been appointed as lecturers within the Ph.D. Program. The supervisors are generally appointed after the first year of the Ph.D.Program.
