Andrea Bacigalupo was born in Genoa (Italy) in 1978. He received Master Degree cum laude in Civil Engineering (curriculum Structural and Geotechnical Engineering) in 2004 and the Ph.D. in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering in 2008, both from the University of Genoa.
From 2008 to 2013, he worked as a Research Associate at the University of Genoa, Department of Civil, Chemical and Environmental Engineering. In 2014 he was a Research Associate at the University of Trento, Department of Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering. From 2015, he is an Assistant Professor in Solid Mechanics and Mechanics of Materials at IMT Lucca, where he works in the MUSAM - Multi-scale Analysis of Materials research unit.
His main research interests include aspects of the mathematical theory of homogenization, multi-scale non-local homogenization theory for periodic and quasi-periodic materials, multi-scale constitutive models for complex materials as generalized continua, homogenization methods for multi-physic problems, elastic wave propagation in composite materials and meta-materials as mass-in-mass dynamic systems.
